Director's Message

Department Goal

The Public Utilities Department’s goal is to continue improving service and our infrastructure in a safe, efficient and cost-effective manner. Many of our water and sewer mains are at the end of their useful life, but by taking care of them, repairing problems before they get to a point of failure, and monitoring conditions, we can extend their life.

This requires dedication, persistence, and a commitment to excellence by our employees. I am proud to say that we function as a team, improving our performance each year.

Evident Improvement

We are beginning to see evidence of these efforts and will continue to see increasing benefits in quality of services provided, and cost effectiveness of our operations. The employees are doing more work, in less time, and achieving a level of success undreamed of just a few years ago. I am proud of the employees and the way they have raised to the challenges presented to them daily.

Water Quality

Most of us take clean, safe, drinking water for granted: when we turn on a tap, we expect water that is safe to drink for ourselves and for our children. When we take a bath and drain the water, we expect the water to be collected, treated, and discharged to a stream in a manner that does not harm the environment.

Most of us give no thought about the costs of these services. These activities occur without thought for time of day, or day of the week; most employees are available on-call nights, weekends, and holidays. Their dedication is praiseworthy.
